Notes from the Field Notes from the Field
GIIP students have served in a variety of exciting internships over the summer. We look forward to hearing how the skills they acquired in GIIP helped them make a difference in the real world.
Gail Chadwin is in El Salvador combining her Community Studies field study with GIIP skills working on environmental and infrastructure projects with Asociación de Municipalidades Mancomunidad la Montañona.
Shelley Alingas is working on a MySpace internship with Global Exchange (Fair Trade Non-profit) to promote their fair trade curriculum in schools K-12.
Roslyn Wang is in Ghana working on the web site and digital catalog with Women in Progress, a women’s co-op that makes fair trade handy crafts.
GIIP’s own cinematographer, Katie Roper, was busy this summer documenting both of GIIP’s Summer Tech Institutes. Take a look at the new digital videos online at: http://giip.ucsc.edu.
Aspiration Tech’s e-advocacy Jamboree took place the week of July 17 at Preservation Park in Oakland. Over 100 online campaigners and organizers from non-profits from across the country, including several GIIP fellows As usual, Aspiration’s Allen Gunn was an exemplary host and facilitated a provoking and enriching event.
GIIP has joined the Social Networking bandwagon. Add GIIP to your friends list at flickr, myspace, facebook and youtube, and let viral networking do what it does best!
